"Life is too short to be bitter"

Pictured to the left is a guy named Tom who is from San Diego, and is actually known for coffee, rather than spuds, as you might expect. Some guy who needs a haircut is on the right.

Tom and I are related through the Irish Mob--or rather, through the Barnes Clan. Always good to see my San Diego brother, one of the famous Ryan Brothers of Ryan Brothers Coffee. Try their Broadway Blues blend, and also their smoky Cowboy Coffee. Really good stuff; makes me extra proud to have kin like that!

Cooperating with New York's Funniest

As a reporter you quickly bond with strangers in person or via phone or email and sometimes it's funny, as when one loud-talking Pittsburgh reporter said to a fast-talking New York property management company owner (though really both were talking loudly and fast):
"For a time when I was a kid, I lived with eleven brothers and sisters and two parents in a house with just one bathroom," the Pittsburgher said.
"I grew up in a two-room coldwater flat, four to a room," the New Yorker said.

Squirrel Hill Synagogue

On a recent Sabbath I got this photo of a synagogue in Pittsburgh's Squirrel Hill section that was bustling with worshippers. I took the pic because I think the exterior of the place is beautiful. But unfortunately, I have not been inside.

No Irish Mob

Despite appearances, the guys in this photo taken in Hershey, PA are not from the Irish Mob.
Pictured from left to right are Harvey Barnes, Jonathan Barnes, Fred McKiernan, Sean Barnes, and Christopher Barnes.
